This rifle was purpose built by Geco G.G. & Company (Gustav Genschow & Co) from a pre WWII Gew 98 Mauser for hunting the plains and large game animals. The receiver is drilled and tapped for an optic or optional sight. The safety is also modified for an optic. The barrel was custom made by the world famous Krupp Laufstahl steel manufacturing company in Germany and it is chambered in 9x57 (standard 8mm case necked up to 9mm). The barrel is 24” long forged half hexagonal, full length rib for rigidity and a textured top for glare resistance. It has a 2 leaf rear express sight for fast acquisition of your target while hunting. The bottom of the bolt is knurled for positive grip while working the action. The rifle has the crest marking removed and textured for glare resistance and all the other components are engraved for decoration. Even the screws are decorated! All proof markings are still intact. The bore is in excellent condition.
When the rifle came to us, it had a crack in the stock at the wrist and has since been professionally repaired. The affected area was re-glued, then drilled along the crack into the wrist. The hole was coated with epoxy and a threaded bolt was inserted for stability. Now it is stronger than when made. See the last two pictures. They show the repair and where the crack was originally. The entire rifle has been completely disassembled and inspected.
