This is a correct 1903a3 Smith Corona bolt action rifle. The receiver is stamped 1944 and the barrel stampings are are 11-43 SC. The bore is in excellent condition. It is shiny with strong rifling and has a ME of only 1/2 which is like a new barrel!
The stock is a straight grip stock and it is correctly stamped with the FJA (Frank James Atwood) inspection cartouche. The crossed cannon mark and RA stamping next to the FJA stamp is very light but still visible. The stock is free of cracks or any serious damage (look at the pics). It has the P in circle stamping on the wrist and several markings in front of the trigger guard.
The bayonet lug and buttplate had minor spots of pitting on parts before they were parkerized (see pics). The bayonet lug and rear sling swivel have R stampings.
The bolt is a late small R marked blued 1903/1903a3 bolt with a large gas escape hole and hardness punch mark. The striker, safety, shroud, and striker rod cocking piece are all also correct R marked.
1903A3 are getting hard to find in this condition!
