Discover a legendary staple of Australian competitive shooting with the Sportco / Omark Model 44. Purpose-built in Australia to replace aging surplus service rifles, this single-shot, bolt-action target rifle became the undisputed mainstay of Fullbore target shooting throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Chambered in 7.62x51mm, this precise firearm is highly regarded for its robust action, outstanding accuracy, and unique historical ties to Commonwealth marksmanship.
The rifle has a 60 degree throw bolt with head locking action, bolt locks into the barrel and cocks on opening. It has an extremely short firing pin travel for fast lock times. The trigger is a single pull with adjustment for overtravel, sear engagement and trigger pressure. It is a very short and crisp trigger pull. The strong tubular receiver adds rigidity and adds support for the bolt locking lugs. The heavy wall receiver locks the recoil plate to threaded 26” barrel and receiver plate extends down into the stock bedding material for a tight non moving action. A spring operated bolt stop facilitates removal of bolt for cleaning. The barrel is a 4 groove, 1 in 12 pitch and is fully free floating. This rifle does NOT have a rotary safety as is normally standard but most shooters removed them as they were never used in competition. The standard procedure was to take the bolts out before you left the shooting line and install a safety flag in the action which is common practice with single shot rifles.
Sights: The receiver is ready to take either Parker Hale or Center Co. rear sights, the front sight block is removable and will take Parker Hale or Center Co. globe sights.
The condition of the rifle can be seen in the pics. No cracks or serious damage to the stock or hand guard.
This rifle has the upgraded wood stock with checkering on the wrist and forearm. It also has a 1972 Canadian Palma match medallion imbedded in the rear of the stock.
Front sight block and globe sight is included but NO REAR SIGHT is available.
Bore is excellent. Bright and shiny with strong rifling.
These rifles are very desirable for target shooting and collectible in their own right!
