This SKS is a true hens tooth! It is very, very rare in the United States. There were less than a handful of these rifles that were mistakenly imported into the United States with a large shipment of 59/66 SKS rifles many years ago.
These rifles were issued to the Croatian Honor Guard. Their duties include performing protocol and ceremonial act as well as providing security for the Presidential Palace. This unit can consists of up to 300 members.
The Croatian Honor Guard Battalion's rifle of choice is the PAP M55/66. We know it as the YUGO 59/66 in 7.62x39 caliber. Like the rest of the 59/66 guns, these rifles have a gas cut off switch for grenade launching capabilities, flip up grenade launching sights, flip out bayonet, rubber recoil pad and flip up front and rear night sights (no longer radiated).
As mentioned above these rifles started life as a standard YUGO SKS 59/66A1 rifles. The metal was polished and re blued, the stock were finished with a high gloss finish and gold plated brass Croatian Coat of Arms were inlaid in the stocks.
The receiver, trigger guard and bolt carrier on this rifle has matching numbers. There is wear on the top edges of dust cover and the bottom edges of magazine as well as on the stock. Bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling. An original sks cleaning rod was added to this rifle as they were not imported with any.
