This is a French MAS model 49/45 in original 7.5x54 caliber. This rifle has a serial number which ranges between 1958-1960 for built date. As per the 73 in the square, it was rebuilt sometime in 1973. At that time, the original barrel was replaced with a 1970 dated barrel, new bolt, bolt carrier and trigger group. The serial numbers match on the receiver, bolt and top cover. No numbers on the rest of the parts. Internal parts are in excellent condition (see pics) and firing pin is like new. It looks to have retained the original stock as well and the rest of the parts as visible in the pics.
As evident by the pics, the rifle was taken down to parts so you can see exactly what condition of everything is so no guessing or mystery here.
A big issue with these guns is the gas tube getting corroded or plugged. You need a special tool to remove the hand guards so we removed them. The gas tube was descaled, cleaned and treated on the inside with CorrosionX to work perfectly. The inside of the handguards and inside of the buttstock were cleaned with a 50/50 mix of BLO and spirits to remove carbon build up, dirt and to seal the wood for future use. The stock is solid, no cracks or splits. The rear stock screw pillar was properly adjusted before installing it. All the internal parts were cleaned and treated with G96 or CorrosionX before reassembly and the bolt, carrier and housing were lubed with Tetra grease.
The integral grenade launcher and sights function as they should and all parts move freely.
The bore has very strong rifling. The lands are frosted with minor pitting which is very common because of the corrosive French ammo.
Rifle comes with one 10 round mag in excellent condition.
